Is “Adopt Don’t Shop” really all that?
Its been said that dogs are often a reflection of their owner. I think that has a lot to do with the way we view or dogs. People often say things affectionately such as they are a part of our family, my fur baby, my best friend and more when describing their dogs. That having been said, it is a wonder to me at times how some will choose to get a new pet Some well meaning people will point to the fact that many worthy animals are unfortunately destroyed in shelters around the country and prefer to employ guilt tactics in their approach to how one should choose a new pet., or in our opinion a new family member.
Considering that our dogs Are a part of our family and frequently share our children’s beds, and even my own often (thank goodness they don’t shed!) I find that over zealousness and over simplification of a personal choice like what pet you would choose to be a little tough to swallow. Our dogs Go with us on many family adventures and are truly buoy’s for the spirit no matter what the day brought good or bad. As such we have carefully selected as our canine family members friends that we feel comfortable represent our family well, much the way a thoughtful person might elect a prospective partner or potential spouse carefully before bringing them home to meet the family. To guilt some one into making a choice as to what new four legged family member is right for them is tantamount to choosing a mate or spouse for some one you love, although it might sound appealing at times, and we may think we know best, the reality is we Don’t know what is best for some one else in matters of the heart or companionship.
One of the other things that we often ponder as we are so vested in our pets is: how can we have a longer lasting friendship with them? For those who say that these things don’t matter and you should get your pet from a shelter, I would ask this: do you truly love dogs and want what is best for All of them? By that I mean to just allow any animal to breed willy nilly with no rational thought to temperament, genetic health and flaws is often the height of unkindness, and yes the antithesis of being a true animal lover. Those who give no thought to these things and simply allow any pairing to occur are often the ones who are in fact providing those unfortunate animals that end up in the shelters in heart rending situations that bother us all when we think about it. To simply say that is just the way it is is the height of unkindness and selfishness and IS a large part of the problem. Rsponsible breeders who selectively give thought to the process and what is best for the dogs that many will consider family members and best friends is one way we can do better and help ensure that we don’t add to the burden of having dogs that lack the desired traits so many of us want out of our pets.
Some other things that we truly give attention to with our pets and in our breeding operation is how can we feel good about the process and do our level best to offer a pet that will be a part of Your family member for many many years and many fond memories to come. Unlike our spouses and mates in the homo sapiens space we can in fact do a bet better job in choosing a long lasting partner in crime. To that end at Funny farm doodles and poodles we employ a variety of things to up the ante in our dogs health and longevity, from only feeding high quality kibble to our dogs to providing raw foods where appropriate to improve their health.
We also take very seriously the Process of breeding a superior pet, having learned the hard way that not all pets are equal and you can have a “bad draft pick” you love as a pet but can not allow to be a part of your breeding operation. Because of this we take testing very seriously and look closely at our dogs conditioning before we allow them to breed. We test our dogs extensively to ensure that your new family member is the best that we can deliver to you, and if one of our dogs does not meet our rigorous expectations we simply will not include it in our operations as difficult as that might be, we are serious about providing the best we can to our friends, family members and clients.
Here at Funny farm poodles and doodles all of our animals are tested with Embark genetic panels to ensure that we have a good genetic specimen with no flaws that will hinder you from having your pet for as long as possible. We realize that life happens, and accidents may take a loved one from us, but we will start at a high point always in our selection of dogs to breed. Additionally we test for hips and vision to ensure that those common flaws are removed from the process. Our puppies start out with lots of love and attention immediately and are handled from day one. We use the Puppy Culture protocol to ensure the best temperament possible with all of our pups and that they have had proper stimulation and desensitization to common things that may cause them to be fearful or have bad behavior.
As you may have discerned from this writing, all of this is a tremendous investment, in you as a prospective owner and in our four legged family members. It is undertaken with due regard and love for the dogs first. This investment does involve a lot of time, money and resources, but rest assured that we are striving every day to provide the very best we can for your family and for ours, and ultimately from the smiles on our previous and proud owners faces we are confident that the effort is worth it even if we only raise a small number of phenomenal pets for your family and ours to enjoy.
